Here is my calendar's Rumi this month. It is a riddle. Anyone care to try to guess it? I have my own guess.

You had better
run from me.
My words are fire.

I have nothing to do
with being famous,
or making grand
judgments, or
feeling full
of shame.

I borrow nothing.
I don't want
anything
from anybody.

I flow through
human beings.

Love is my only companion.

All this month I've been pondering this Rumi poem on my wall calendar:

What makes these changes?
I shoot an arrow right, it lands left.
I ride after a deer and find myself chased by a hog.
I plot to get what I want and end up in prison.
I dig pits to trap others and fall in.
I should be suspicious of what I want.
The accompanying picture is an old and venerable painting:

A Stupid Man Saws off the Limb of a Tree on Which He Is Sitting, to the Amazement of Onlookers
by Sa'di, 1522-1523, modern-day Uzbekistan

What do you think - profound, sacred, or funny as hell?

What does this evoke for you?

Does it contain a lesson for Scooby-doo villains?

If you've been reading this blog and haven't yet introduced yourself, come and say hi!
